LIP BALM

Making your own lip balm is very easy (and much more cost effective than buying the store bought variety). This recipe is enough to make 12 lip balm/chapstick (and if you lose these as often as we do in my house, then you will be very happy that you can make your own in just a few minutes).
You can make a tinted lip balm by adding some powdered beet root to the mixture, which provides a natural rose color. You can also try using some of the same ingredients to make some homemade deodorant, body butter or body scrub.

Lip Balm
What You Will Need:
- 1/2 Tbsp. beesewax
- 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
- 1 Tbsp. almond oil
- Empty balm tubes or balm jars
- 2 capsules Beet Root Powder (optional, for tint)
- Small funnel (optional)
- Measuring spoon
- 1/2 Tbsp. beesewax
- 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
- 1 Tbsp. almond oil
- Empty balm tubes or balm jars
- 2 capsules Beet Root Powder (optional, for tint)
- Small funnel (optional)
- Measuring spoon
How To Do It:
1. Fill a medium-sized saucepan about halfway full of water and place on the stove over medium-low heat. Bring the water to a light boil. Place a bowl or pot over the saucepan to create a double boiler (the wax can be a little hard to remove so I use an older metal bowl that I reserve for these types of things). Add your beesewax to the bowl and allow it to melt. If your beesewax is in a block form, add the block to the bowl and allow enough to melt to make about 1/2 Tbsp. to1 Tbsp. Remove the rest of the block and set it aside to cool.
2. Add the coconut oil and almond oil to the pan and stir to combine. If you want to make a tinted lip balm, empty two capsules of beet root powder (about 1 tsp.) into the mixture and stir to combine.
3. Keep the mixture over the heat and spoon the lip balm into the empty balm containers. You can use a small funnel to help or make your own funnel from aluminum foil or parchment paper. Set the containers aside to cool for about 1 hour, and then enjoy!
